CIHC Phase 1 Survey
Something New Is Happening at the CIHC—And We Want Your Voice to Help Shape It
Hello!
Big things are starting to take shape at the future site of the California Indian Heritage Center (CIHC)! After years of listening, planning, and dreaming, we heard the community loud and clear: people want to see progress—real, visible, meaningful progress. We’re excited to share that a new piece of the CIHC—the very first part that people will be able to walk through, gather in, and experience—is moving forward now. While the full Heritage Center is still in development, this Phase 1 project is happening soon, with a goal to open around Native American Day in 2026.
Phase 1 will bring the vision of the CIHC to life on the landside area of the site. It will include places to gather, walk, sit, learn, and connect—with shaded spaces, interpretive features, and a welcoming new entryway. Most importantly, it’s being created with California Indian communities at the heart of the process.
That’s where you come in.
As we begin shaping this first experience, we’re asking for your ideas. What should people see, hear, and feel when they arrive? What messages should the space send? What would make someone say, “You’ve got to come see this”?
This is your chance to help shape a place that reflects Native values, honors intergenerational connections, and leaves a lasting impression on everyone who visits. Join us in building something meaningful from the ground up—starting now.
Thank you in advance for your time and feedback!
